The Haenyeo are strong, independent women who spend their days diving in the ocean to make a living. The images on the postcards depict their practice of diving without any technical equipment to catch edibles such as alabones, molluscs, conches etc. The sea is very important to them and is considered their farmland and they reap a living out of the sea by harvesting the marine life in the sea. They are skilled and can hold their breath for a long time underwater.
