FUJIFILM GFX 100 – Review
The FUJIFILM GFX 100 is a 102 Megapixel medium format camera. It has a GF lens mount and is a dual-grip mirrorless camera. It has some amazing features, which help professionals in achieving high quality images.
The FUJIFILM GFX system is certainly one of the best equipments. The image quality offered by medium format cameras is outstanding. Compared to other DSLRs, they have a larger sensor and can provide a shallower depth of field. Being a professional photographer, I do a lot of commercial shoots, headshot and portrait sessions. This feature works very well for portraitures as the large aperture helps in differentiating the subject from the background.
I feel that the dynamic range or number of pixels are not the main factors when it comes to making your work better. The composition, aesthetics, emotions and story in a photographer’s work is key. When all this is right and in place, the medium format definitely makes a difference specially if you intent to print your work.
Build quality of the FUJIFILM GFX 100 –
The body has a solid and sturdy grip. The GFX 100 is made up of magnesium alloy and steel grey metal with black leatherette. It has a feather touch shutter button and one can shoot horizontally as well as as vertically. Therefore, making it quick for photographers to switch to different orientations easily. The LCD monitor tilts in three directions, which is very convenient while shooting from various angles.
The FUJIFILM GFX 100 is weather proof, allowing one to shoot in harsh weather conditions in upto -10 degrees Celsius. It also allows protection from dust and moisture.

Other important features of the GFX 100 –
The shock absorption mechanism in the FUJIFILM GFX 100 is flawless. Allowing one to shoot commercial projects, in studio and landscapes handheld, with the least or no camera shake. This feature also enables shutter response which is very beneficial.
One other important feature of this camera is the in-body image stabiliser. This feature allows one to shoot handheld, without any worries in many occasions, as it offers 5.5 stops of stabilisation across five axes.
The GFX 100 also offers photographic effects such as the ‘Grain Effect’ which gives the images a analogue look and the ‘Smooth Skin Effect’, which is a new function for smoothing the skin tones, specially used for portraitures.
Conclusion –
Personally, I feel the FUJIFILM medium format camera system is remarkable and delivers images of excellent quality. Being a FUJIFILM Singapore ambassador, I was endorsing the GFX 50R when it was launched. I carried it to the Tibetan Autonomous Region in the west side of Sichuan in China for travel and documentary photography. The images delivered by the GFX 50R were impeccable. Later on, I launched a documentary photograph book with these images.
In conclusion, the FUJIFILM GFX 100 provides high quality images and is a very versatile camera. Being a professional photographer, I feel it is a remarkable camera for my commercial shoots be it indoors at the studio or outdoors on location. I find it a little bulky and heavy weight to carry around for travel photography but overall, it is a very good camera with an amazing grip. I would definitely recommend it to professional photographers.
